Avista Corporation (Avista Corp. or the Company), incorporated in the state of  Washington in 1889, is an energy company engaged in the generation, transmission  and distribution of energy as well as other energy-related businesses. As of  December 31, 2007, we employed 1,473 people in our utility operations and 644  people in our subsidiary businesses. Our corporate headquarters are in Spokane,  Washington, the hub of the Inland Northwest. Agriculture, mining and lumber were  the primary industries in the Inland Northwest for many years; today health  care, education, finance, electronic and other manufacturing, tourism and the  service sectors are growing in importance.  In May 2006, our shareholders approved a proposal to proceed with a statutory  share exchange, which would change our organization to a holding company  structure. If the implementation of the holding company structure is approved by  regulators on terms acceptable to us, it may be completed sometime in 2008.  ...
